Under 11’s is for all children age 10 (school year 6 in September) and we welcome all new players throughout the season.
This is the season where children continue to hone their contact techniques and develop their skills in other aspects of the game including scrums (3 man, uncontested), rucks and mauls and see the introduction of kicking (of the ball)!
We embrace the ‘rugby for all’ ethos at this club which means we will look for players to play in a variety of tournaments and festivals throughout the season.
If you would like to come along, please ensure that your child has studded boots, a drink, a snack and clothing to suit the conditions.
In the interests of safety and appropriate behaviour, we would remind parents that they (or another nominated adult) are required to remain at the club during the training sessions/matches although this can be done in the comfort of our clubhouse with a hot drink and a bacon roll.
The majority of our coaches are qualified with the RFU, to the appropriate level and we promote skills development and teamwork and try to instil a sense of working hard in all our players whilst teaching the basics of contact rugby.
Any parent, player, ex-player wishing to get involved as a coach, first-aider, etc. is welcome and encouraged. Support and training is available and all help is deeply appreciated. We work closely with the players and coaches of both the Senior and Junior teams - it’s all part of our one club ethos.
Contact a member of the coaching team below or feel free to turn up.
Club Kit - Players will require blue shorts, red socks and a club shirt (available through the club online shop). Rugby boots should be worn with kite marked studs. Coaches will make regular stud checks and it is recommended that you bring alternative footwear for players to wear after training, particularly as studs are not allowed in the clubhouse. Please note football type ‘blades’ are not allowed. Gum Shields are also a requirement for contact rugby, it suggested you start with a cheap mouth guard as the children do like chew them, these are readily available at major sports stores. Rugby is an all-weather sport and we will train throughout the winter, therefore we recommend ‘skins’ on colder days to provide an extra layer of warmth, along with weatherproof training tops. A woolly hat is a useful addition as is a nice warm layer to put on after training!
