Under 6s is for all children in school years Reception and year 1 (Ages 5 and 6 on 1st September).
Rugby for this age group is focused around rugby style fun games and activities to develop individual skills such as agility, basic ball handling and awareness of space as well as that of teamwork and sportsmanship. Skills developed feed into playing TAG Rugby, a safe, fun and exciting form of non-contact rugby suitable for both boys and girls. So come down and give it a go!
We welcome new starters and do everything we can to help them to join in from the first session. Whilst the "kit" for the first session isn't too important, we ask that you plan for your child to need studded boots, a drink, a snack and clothing to suit the conditions (see below).
Contact a member of the coaching team below or feel free to turn up.
Club Kit – No specific club kit is required for the U6’s however if you and your child wish they can wear our club strip which comprises blue shorts, red socks and a club shirt (available through the club online shop). As the ground softens studded boots should be worn with safe rounded studs (kite marked). Just ask a coach if you aren't sure. It's also a good idea to bring alternative footwear for players to wear after training, particularly as studs are not allowed in the clubhouse.
Rugby is an all-weather sport and we will train throughout the winter. We find (that despite complaining about extra layers) the u6s get cold very quickly and then lose their enthusiasm to take part. The close fitting "skins" type base layers are brilliant. Hats, gloves, scarves etc all become essential.
In the interests of safety we would remind parents that they (or another nominated adult) are required to remain at the club during the training sessions/matches although this can be done in the comfort of our clubhouse with a hot drink and a bacon roll.
Any parent, player, ex-player wishing to get involved as a coach, first-aider, etc. is welcome and encouraged. Support and training is available and all help is deeply appreciated. We work closely with the players and coaches of both the Senior and Junior teams - it’s all part of our one club ethos.
