Match Report to follow by Rick Howe
Our Referee today - Mr Stewart Goodwin from Sussex.

Over the months much has already been written by “Bleater”, about the merits or otherwise, of the wisdom in including 2nd teams from clubs several leagues higher. That ship has sailed, and this is not a one eyed rant, having surprisingly lost by such a wide margin, against a side that included several 1st team qualified players, but a simple observation about yet again another aspect of the unintended consequences of such a decision. This is in no way a criticism of Sevenoaks, who are unjust recipients of the planners, just as Crowborough are.
Namely, it appears that the communication between the leagues when arranging fixtures, is non-existent or simply fails to take account of the distinct possibility of two league matches taking place on the same day, at the same time, and at the same club, as it did yesterday!
Sevenoaks are a victim of geography, and are not blessed with a large car park, and with the local roads coated in a copious quantity of double yellow lines, ( who can blame the local residents), the nearest parking space for your correspondent was a mile away by the cricket ground, where parking for more than 2 hours was a whopping £5!
Having tried to park at the club, and informed there was no place at the inn, it was decided that the long walk back to the club with a painful back spasm, was just too much, so by the time the team ran out onto the pitch we were close to Steel Cross once more. The following details therefore are courtesy of Ian Geering:
Crowborough were up against it from the first whistle, against a strong and well drilled side, whose #’s 4,9,and 12 made all the difference, showing that training with the whole squad rubs off on those sides below!
Although well beaten in most aspects of the game by the better side, there were a number of dubious decisions, which resulted in two tries that on another day and in another place, could have been ruled out, but would not have affected the overall result.
On ‘Boro’s account Adam King scored their try with Jonah Houghton adding the conversion. A tough day at the office which hopefully can be reversed on January 11th 2025 when the teams meet once more at Steel Cross.
Next week, Crowborough welcome Ashford RFC to Steel Cross, a match preceded by The Past Players Lunch KO 3:00pm, with Ashford hoping to get their season moving forward once more after their defeat yesterday by Heathfield.
In other results bottom placed Charlton Park got their first victory at home against Cranbrook , Deal beat Beccahamians, Dover drew in a 24 all match against Bromley, and Park House put the wind up Canterbury 2nds in a narrow bonus point loss.
