Crowborough RFC Walking Rugby flies the flag
Walking Rugby started 2025 with an event played at Horsham under lights on Friday night 10th Jan and hosted by Horsham and Barns Green RFC. 6 Teams and over 50 participants took part each playing 5 matches of 14 minutes each. With temperatures below freezing Crowborough started well with 3 closely competed and evenly matched games against Horsham, Burgess Hill and Seaford. They then came up against a more experienced and well organised Guildfordians 7 who possessed far too much speed for Crowborough to match and with a final fixture against Barns Green players began to show signs of the exertion from the evenings efforts, nevertheless they battled hard to the end and scored some good tries. The evening showed the progress Crowborough Walking Rugby has achieved since starting and the capability that now exists to successfully compete with some of our neighbours.
This was an immensely enjoyable event and a chance to renew acquaintances with some old friends and for one Crowborough player at least (Dobby you know who you are!) to be welcomed by opposition and once again show his paces. Thanks very much to all the Crowborough team who made the commitment on a cold night and once again demonstrate Crowborough Walking Rugby is great fun and played for entertainment.
Crowbourough walking rugby will return with better weather in the spring on Thursday evenings when we welcome all and would hope some new players will be encouraged to come and give it a go.
